The State Key Laboratory of Fiber Optic and Cable Preparation Technology (Tianchang Communications) was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in September 2012, supervised by Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and supported by Tianchang Communications Optical Co., Ltd.In August 2013, the laboratory passed the construction acceptance organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and in September 2018, it passed the first evaluation organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and was awarded excellent.Laboratory on national strategic demand and optical fiber cable industry development as the guidance, practice the "open, flow, joint, competition" operation mechanism, to study the applied basic research, key technology and common technology research as the main research focus, to resolve the preform, optical fiber (fiber), optical fiber cable and its manufacturing equipment, fiber optic cable application and detecting technology as the main research contents,It has set up five research laboratories or centers for optical fiber technology, optical cable technology, equipment technology, optical fiber application technology and testing technology.

There are more than 80 fixed researchers in the laboratory, including 20 senior technical titles/doctors, and more than 50 masters.The laboratory covers an area of 6,000 square meters, and has established a number of scientific research and innovation platforms, including prefabricated rod technology, optical fiber technology (including special fiber), optical cable technology, and testing technology.The laboratory testing center has been accredited by China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment and Telcordia Laboratory, an international authority. These basic conditions provide a strong talent guarantee and platform support for the long-term development of the laboratory and the major national strategic needs.

Awarded 2 national key new products;In 2018, it was evaluated as an industry outstanding enterprise state key laboratory, ranking first in the field of information;It has won two second prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award.It has undertaken more than 10 national projects/subjects such as the National 863 Program, major science and technology projects, major science and technology projects, science and technology support programs, international science and technology cooperation projects, and the National Electronic Development Fund.Lead/participate in the revision of more than 100 international standards, national standards and industry standards;More than 260 domestic and foreign invention patents have been applied, including more than 50 PCT international invention patents.He has published more than 120 scientific papers.
